The L. Perry Cookingham Collection from the University of Missouri-Kansas City contains documents, photographs, and a diary from the military service of Laurie Perry Cookingham. Originally from Illinois, L. Perry Cookingham enlisted at Camp Custer and served overseas with Company “B”, 310th Field Signal Battalion, 85th Division. In his diary, Cookingham outlined his military experiences from enlistment in Chicago to his travels with the Army of Occupation. In 1940, Cookingham assumed the duty of City Manager of Kansas City, Missouri. Here he would hold the record of the longest tenure for any city manager in a major city.
